As a fellow in allergy/immunology, I find this to be a very helpful reference book. It's my go-to source when reading about my patient's disease processes, though I do often have to go to PubMed due to the rapidly changing nature of A/I (one of the reasons I chose this field). I think it's a great reference for any fellow or practicing allergist. It comes as two volumes, which I find more manageable than one gigantic tome. Still, it's heavy and I keep it at home for reference. While I could have looked for an electronic version, in my opinion some books will always deserve to be read as books.
The Kindle version has the full color text including tables and charts of the textbook. The weakness is in how to get to the sections you want on the Kindle. The Kindle purchase also grants access to the Elsevier web version of the textbook, which has better chapter and search capability than the Kindle version. The access to the web version helps to make the Kindle purchase more worthwhile.There are a few areas they could improve to help the Kindle version a lot 1.) On the Kindle, the Contents Section shows the Table of Contents, but this only expands out to the subsections not the Chapters. For example: Volume 2 expands to Section F GI Tract Section G Systemic Disease and Section H Therapeutics. On the Elsevier website online version, you can open or close the subsections for each chapter which makes the scrolling much less.2.) The Index only goes to the beginning of the Index. It takes multiple page flips to get to the letter you want. It would help a lot if the Table of Contents split up the index such as Index A, Index B, etc.).3.) The Search is also not very helpful. I did a search for Mastocytosis, which is actually Chapter 76. I got over 270 matches (including headings in the references) but it was not clear which one was the main topic. They should show the Chapter Headings first then show the links to other sections afterwards. On the Elsevier website online version, the same search shows 57 matches, but the Chapter heading is the first listing. It would have been helpful if the Chapter headings were placed in the Table of Contents or if the Search would find the Chapters first.4.) On the online version, clicking on the link in the reference section goes to the PubMed reference for each reference article but this is not present on the Kindle version.5.) One question asked how to sign up for the Elsevier website. In the same Contents menu where you find the Table of Contents and Index, the very last item (after Index) is called "Instructions for Online Access", which shows how to register the Kindle edition so you have online access to the Elsevier website version.
Bought this to review for ABAI Maintenance of Certification. It’s a great general reference, a lot of information. The online resource,â€Expert Consult,†is excellent, so you have to buy it new or you can’t register. Obviously, you need to hit the journals for newer research.
There are two books in this set, despite what another reviewer wrote.
The best source known in the allergy and immunology field. Enjoy that there is internet access from home and anywhere since it can be daunting carrying the book around.
Good book. As expected
I'm an allergist. I have had this book since the first edition and still it is my reference book. It has also always met my expectations on all subjects. I have always recommended this book to fellows-in-training.
I thought I'm paying for the two volumes of the book, anyway; how could you sell a book that starts from page No. 1160 or something,, I want the first volume (first book) and you should have warned me that I'm only buying the second volume which is useless without the first one.Thank you for the disappointment
