As a former CTR3, who served in Korea, 1972-73, the book is well written and only reinforces what CT's have always known: that ship never should have sailed in its condition and armament and the Navy and the Johnson Administration did not provide adequate protection nor prepare a contingency plan for the mission. A damn shame for the captain and his crew.
Considering I am in this book on four pages, I think it is just a great account of the Illegal seizure of a U. S. Navy ship in International Waters. I am a career Navy veteran who had over 25 years of active duty. I was interviewed by Trevor Armbrister along with other personnel who were working at the White House at the time of the incident. At the time, Mr. Armbrister was the only person who President Lyndon B. Johnson authorized access to us, who were involved with reporting what took place on the other side of the world. The book is well written and tells it precisely how things occurred off North Korea. The book is easy to read and anyone who is a Naval History buff will really enjoy the way Mr. Armbrister told the story of a small, almost unarmed, U. S. Navy survey (Intelligence Collecting) lightly manned, made-over supply ship is taken over by the North Korean Navy and taken to the port of Wansan. Where today it is still located and is one of the largest ships in the North Korean Navy. Once you start reading this book I guarantee you will not want to put it down.
Superb book. I personally know several of the books mainplayers and discussions with them reveal that Bucher wasan outstanding officer, leader and gentleman. This bookas opposed to the other books about Pueblo gets it correct.I strongly recommend it to serious readers desiring to learnwhat really happened. Joseph G. Hoover, CDR USN(Ret.)
i enjoy history. this is a story that isnt read about often enough. i was beginning my teen years when the incident ocurred. vey interesting read for an ex-sailor as myself.
Really outstanding - Armbrister brings the whole (fantastically) complex Pueblo ordeal into focus. He consistently and smoothly moves the reader from the prison building, back to Japan, to Washington DC, and back to the individual crew members. Highly recommended.

This is a very balanced look at the Pueblo Affair. Thought the author appears to sympathize with Bucher, the book also presents a balanced view and shows that more could have been done by the skipper.
