The chart break down seemed to be a great study tool until I realized that I cannot rely on the information written in the book. There are certain glaring errors. For example on page 81 the "CRIM" section discussing the difference between the model penal code and common law is visibly wrong. The area of the chart thats labeled "Common Law" is actually the "Model Penal Code" Column and vice versa. Easy and obvious mistakes like these just make the book look sloppy and make me feel like I cannot trust the information written in the book. Word of advice is do not refer to this book as your first line study tool, it's not dependable.
BUY THIS! there is no other study aid like it. Most study aids either confuse you, teach you something professor does not agree with and or are so much reading it is as if you have an additional text book. This has straight forward examples, charts and is a must have item for law students especially first years. Also it's one of the only supplements that breaks down and compares MPC to Common Law-in crim section of book .
I am a practicing attorney and I bought this book because I thought that I could use it as an overview to issue spot outside the scope of my primary areas of practice. It absolutely helps with this and I am also kicking myself that it didn't exist when I was in law school. The charts give you an overview of everything so you aren't so lost in the details. They create a clear picture of how everything fits together both visually and with examples. The book really synthesizes everything into a cohesive overview so all subjects and their interrelations make sense. I wish I had it then and I am happy to have it now.The downside to the book is that the charts are shaded so you really can't copy them. I know this is par for the course with study aids but it's still a bit annoying...
This is a great review book for law students. The charts make it easy to understand information that can be sometimes hard to understand in casebooks, especially for first year students. And it is formatted in an easy to read way. Making charts helps put information together in a concise way. I also love the way how important sections of the MPC, FRCP and the UCC is given in the beginning of each section, and how the author compared the MPC with Common Law. The best part is the examples the author provides which are similar to the cases in the casebook. Having examples is a great way to learn. Overall, a great supplement to review topics in a concise manner.
I'm very visual so they have helped me out a ton. The civil procedure ones have helped me from being lost in the class. I would definitely recommend this if you're a visual learner!
